SECTION 111 MMSEA REPORTING:
Countdown to January, 2011
The Known and the Unknown & What It All Means
As Section 111’s January, 2011 Start Date Approaches
The clock is quickly winding down to January, 2011 -- CMS’ currently scheduled date when official electronic reporting under Section 111 of the Medicare, Medicaid & SCHIP Extension Act (MMSEA) will commence. Lurching in the background is a heavy penalty for non-compliance -- $1,000 per day, per claim.
As the official start date draws near, CMS continues to amend its reporting guidelines, and introduce new reporting directives as part of its Mandatory Insurer Reporting (MIR) mandates. CMS recently released Version 3.1 of its NGHP User Guide, continues to hold regular Town Hall teleconferences, and remains in the process of finalizing its reporting requirements in certain areas.
Now is the time for the claims industry, risk managers, and all claims practitioners to ensure that they have a firm understanding of Section 111’s requirements, CMS’ MIR directives, and the practical impact Section 111 will have on claims handling and settlement practices.
This presentation will address key aspects of Section 111 and CMS’ MIR directives, including:
What Is Required?
Responsible Reporting Entities(RREs) -- Issues & Considerations
Determining Medicare Status -- Query Function & Its Limitations
When Must I Report? - TPOC vs. ORM
Current Timelines -- Splitting the Reporting Atoms
How the Reform Proposals Under The Medicare Secondary Payer Enhancement Act (H.R. 4796) Would Change Section 111
Practical Considerations For Claims Handling
